RIS on ADEOS


The RIS is a single-element 0.5-m diameter hollow cube-corner reflector. The RIS has an unique optical design. A spherical mirror with very small curvature is used to optimize the pattern of the reflected beam.
The mirror panels for the RIS were made of quartz with a lights weight structure. The mirror surface is finished with silver based optical coating which has high reflectance in a wavelength range from 350 nm to 14 microns.

The RIS is installed on the ADEOS as shown in Fig. 1 with a direction cosines of the optical axis of (0.508, - 0.279, 0.815) in the satellite coordinate system, where X is the direction of the satellite movement and Z is the nadir.
